Just because South Beach is famous for happy hours, golden beaches, and beautiful residents, doesn’t mean that the locals get their beach bodies without working hard for them. If you feel the urge to join in and get fit in South Beach, there are some great options to drop in on, here are a few of our faves:
Flamingo Park: You’ll find Flamingo Park in the heart of South Beach, a favorite hotspot for local residents and tourists alike. A few of the celebrities that have been spotted in the park include Shakira, Anna Kournikova, and Lil Wayne, so, y’know, don’t go in your oldest sweats. The basketball courts off 13th Street and Michigan Avenue are known as some of the best in the area.
North Shore Park: Want to work on that back hand? North Shore Park is located in northern Miami Beach and offers two hard tennis courts and ten clay tennis courts. These are adjacent to a new family-oriented recreation center. The courts are open Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 9 PM, and players can play on weekends from 8 AM until 8 PM. The nonresident fee is $8 per person, per hour, and you can make reservations by phone up to one day in advance.
South Beach Run Club: The Nike South Beach Run Club is affiliated with the Run Club Network. The vision behind this network is part community gathering, part fitness. Runners gather near Washington Avenue and Lincoln Road every Thursday evening to get in a good run. The distances range from a 5K to a 10K. The only thing that you need to do in order to join the club is to sign a waiver.
Equinox: Ok, so it’s not the most affordable gym that you are ever going to come across, but there is a reason that Equinox has been voted as the ‘number one gym in America’. There are countless available classes, training sessions, a scientific approach to fitness, and Pilates options.
Flywheel Sports: Flywheel Sports has quickly become ‘the’ spinning destination in Miami Beach. They will provide participants with lockers, towels, and spin shoes. Add in the fact that the first class is free, and you don’t have a reason not to check it out if you have an interest in spinning. Even though the classes are tough, most people feel as though they got their money’s worth at the end. You can look online for more information, or even reserve a spot in the next session.
