Relocating to Calgary? Fun Things to do in The City

Business Travel, Relocating, Vacation Rental

A true gem of the Prairies, Calgary is all about city life with a country attitude. The city is surrounded by agriculture and ranches where livestock are raised, but its far from boring or simple in terms of its culture, events and attractions.
We’ve all heard of the Calgary Stampede, but not every traveller out there finds themselves in town during that one stretch of the Summer. Luckily, there are things to do in Calgary year round! Take a look at some of our picks for unmissable things to see and do next time you’re out in the wild west.

Calgary +15 Skywalk
No matter which season you’re visiting Calgary in, the Calgary +15 Skywalk is a wonderful place to start your sightseeing. The Skywalk is an above ground tunnel system that interconnects a lot of the downtown core via glass overpasses that cross street from above as well as other enclosed pathways that make it possible to go across the whole of Downtown without ever setting foot outdoors – perfect for winter wanderings.Calgary-Business-Trip-Relocation-Apartments
Spruce Meadows
Spruce Meadows is the infamous equestrian park in Calgary. Many people may remember it from all of the horse jumping competitions on TV. This isn’t all the grounds are used for though, so if horses aren’t your main interest, there are other things to see and do. They have a tack shop for cowboy-inspired shopping and host loads of trade shows during the year that span a myriad of niches. You can also book your own events for the grounds, which include weddings.
The Core
If you’re planning on treating yourself to a shopping spree when away from home, The Core Shopping Centre is an awesome option that has 3 floors of shops, an admission-free botanical garden on the top floor, and a massive food court with lots of selection. You can also expect to encounter a bunch of high end stores that offer more upscale shopping for special circumstances or to treat yourself. The Core is also the only shopping centre Downtown, so you are in good company here if you don’t want to go down a million side streets looking for your next purchase.
Calgary Tower
You probably noticed the Calgary Tower on your way into town, and its a great place to visit for a panoramic view of the entire city. Reserve a table at the Sky360 Restaurant at the top of the tower for a revolving fine dining experience with excellent food. This is also a wonderful place to pop the question or celebrate a loved one’s birthday, so call ahead and save the date!

Heritage Pointe Golf Course
Don’t think for one second that the flatter ground around town means there’s no such thing as golf in Calgary. If you’re up for working on your handicap, visit Heritage Pointe Golf Course, the top golf course in the city. Now, you can’t golf here in the Winter, but you can every other time of the year, and it’s not an exclusive club, so you can come in off the street and do 9, 18, or the entire 27 holes with a group of friends or family. They have a clubhouse, dining establishment, and even a driving range if you just want to drive and putt for a few hours.
Calgary Food Tours
A Calgary Food Tour is a good choice for foodies who are always looking to add a new cuisine or restaurant to their list of favourites. The tour company offers themed tours on a variety of aspects of food in the city as well as tours focus on certain areas of the city and their best restaurants. You can look at the local food scene where farm to table is important criteria for a good meal, or take on the crawl from venue to venue in a number of different Calgary Neighbourhoods. What a succulent way to spend the day!
The list above really just scratches the surface of what you can do when in Calgary for business or pleasure. While you’re in town, why not do both? There’s certainly no rule that says you can’t meet with a few colleagues over a round of golf, and you can do lunch with a new client by taking a quick jaunt together through the Skywalk to a good restaurant. Your time in Calgary can be so much more than a dull hotel room – just take one of the above as a jumping off point and get planning!
