Meet John Decoste, our new Sales Manager!

When we say we have an awesome team here at we mean it. We hire the best of the best, and promote our most impressive employees so you know you are dealing with talented, professional people. This week we interviewed John Decoste, a team member for over a year, and now, our new Sales Manager.

CS: Congratulations on your promotion! Tell us, what is it that attracts you to the hospitality industry?

JD: I’ve traveled extensively in my life and always enjoyed meeting with fellow-travelers. I started working in hotels in Banff, Alberta when I was 18 years old and loved it so much I came back to Montreal to complete my degree in Tourism & Hospitality. What attracted me was definitely an eagerness to learn more about other countries and mainly other cultures!

CS:How is different from other companies you have worked for?

JD :I worked in the hotel industry for 15 years, and although I enjoyed it very much, I find corporate housing to be similar and very different at the same time. As a father of two young kids, I enjoy having a nice big apartment with kitchen when I travel. I find apartment buildings to be quieter, and have a better internet connectivity because they do not use broadband like hotels do and clog the systems during rush hours. I enjoy the spacious apartments better than small hotel rooms, and so I love selling them to others who will enjoy them as I do!

CS:What have you learned or been surprised by  in the past year of working for CS?

JD: I was surprised and happy to be part of a fast growing enterprise and realized quickly that we were not simply a competitor, but a leader in the industry for Montreal especially. With 100 new apartments at The V, the sky’s the limit. I was also amazed at the fact that is always willing to be better and improve to make sure we meet our client’s need at every level. In hotels, it can take some time and can be quite complicated to change or implement a structure, whereas Vladimir, our CEO, was quite open to new ideas and this motivated me to think outside of the box more and come up with fresh ideas.

CS:What changes or improvements do you hope to implement as Sales Manager?

JD: Since I started, my main objective was to make my work easier, and therefore everyone’s work easier, by bringing some of my personal experience in the hotel industry to the table. We established a structure as a team, and I was able to put my account manager experience to good use by contacting the right companies and bring in a more Corporate and steady business to create a perfect mix of leisure and business travelers. I worked hard during 2013 to position within several hotel/housing programs for large Corporations. My present focus is to develop this concept on a wider scale and throughout locations in Canada, USA and Latin America!
