Hey, just because you’re here on business, doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun. And while the rest of Canada doesn’t generally equate ‘fun’ with our nation’s fair capital, there are actually quite a few cool festivals and events happening as the leaves turn red. Here are three of our favourites:
The Ottawa International Film Festival, October 15 – 19, 2014
Ok, it’s not Cannes, but the Ottawa International Film Festival (OIFF) brings some great Canadian and foreign film to the big screen this month, and it makes a point of promoting independent artists, which is a very worthy cause in this age of the Hollywood blockbuster. This year is the festival’s 5th anniversary, and screenings will take place in the iconic Mayfair Theatre. As with all the good festivals, it’s got everything from animation to shorts, and tickets are only $10.
National Women’s Show, October 25 – 26, 2014
It’s the ultimate girl’s day out! Shop ‘til you drop at over 200 exhibits and find everything from food and wine sampling, fashion shows, celebrity guests, free makeovers, health, wellness & beauty secrets, home renovation advice and travel ideas! Bring your friends, sister, daughter or mom and be entertained doing everything you love. Enjoy great deals and show specials, shop for well-known brands or find a unique piece of clothing or jewellery at one of the many boutique exhibits. Experiment with a new look, ask the experts for advice about hairstyles, make-up and fitness and see fashion shows for the latest style trends for night, day, work or play!
Rendez-vous des Saveurs de l’Outaouais, October 15 – 19, 2014
This 5-day gastronomical event highlights wine, spirits, and regional cuisine presented by acclaimed chefs and restaurant owners. Don’t miss the gourmet Oktoberfest dinner on the first night, happening in Ottawa Casino’s Salon Royal. Go on, bring out the foodie in you!
